Pervier Elected as Officer for Regional Developers Group - 7-29-2008

(PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C.), July 28: The Piedmont Triad Partnership’s Economic Developers Advisory Committee (EDAC) has elected Robin Rhyne from Surry County as chairman and Graham Pervier from Rockingham County as vice chairman for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.

EDAC consists of representatives of the 13 economic development agencies from the 12 Piedmont Triad counties. EDAC members meet monthly to exchange ideas and to advise the Piedmont Triad Partnership (PTP) staff on regional marketing and related issues. In addition, EDAC representatives participate regularly in tradeshows and industry meetings and on consultant call trips organized by the PTP.

Rhyne is president of the Surry County Economic Development Partnership. She has been in that position on a full-time basis since August, 2005, after serving briefly as interim president. Rhyne first came to Surry County from Boone as a site consultant for Gerard’s Bakery.

“The Piedmont Triad Region continues to build national recognition as an outstanding location for business due to the collective efforts of the Piedmont Triad Partnership and the economic development agencies that serve the region’s twelve counties,” says Rhyne. “All of us benefit by maintaining the highest levels of cooperation and coordination among the region’s economic development organizations. I’m looking forward to doing all I can to ensure that we maximize our collaboration and truly work together to create new job opportunities and strengthen the tax base of our region,” added Rhyne.

Pervier was county manager of Forsyth County from 1987 through his retirement in 2006. He served as interim president of the Rockingham County Partnership and became president in May 2007.

As officers of EDAC, Rhyne and Pervier will both serve one-year terms on the PTP Board of Directors. “We are delighted to have Robin and Graham in leadership positions on both the EDAC and on our board of directors,” says Don Kirkman, President and CEO of the Piedmont Triad Partnership. “Our staff and board look forward to a close working relationship with all of the Piedmont Triad local economic development organizations in 2008-2009, and Robin and Graham will be outstanding liaisons between those agencies and the PTP.”

The Piedmont Triad Partnership (PTP), one of seven regional economic development partnerships in North Carolina, is the economic development organization representing the 12-county Piedmont Triad region. The PTP is the lead organization for the U.S. Department of Labor-funded Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) initiative, which supports the development of an integrated regional economic development and workforce development strategy for the Piedmont Triad. The Piedmont Triad, the nation's 37th-largest metro region with more than 1.5 million residents, includes the counties of Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin.
