Local Incentives

Rockingham County and the local municipalities review each new business location individually in order to offer a generous location assistance package. The local assistance package is based on investment in machinery and equipment, the creation of jobs, and building upfit.

State Incentives

North Carolina’s targeted, performance-based incentive programs greatly lessen the tax burden and lower the overall costs for companies who are locating and doing business in our state.

Companies that meet certain requirements can take advantage of tax credits and other incentives. 
                                                                                                                                                     Article 3J Tax Credits:                                                                                               
Rockingham County (Tier 1) 
                                                                                               

  • Credit for Creating Jobs: $12,500 per job with a 5 job minimum threshold 
  • Credit for Investing in Business Property:  7% with $0 minimum threshold 
  • Credit for Investment in Real Property:
    Eligible taxpayers that invest at least $10 million in real property within a three-year period and create at least 200 new jobs within two years at an establishment located in a tier 1 county are allowed a credit equal to 30% of the eligible real property investment. This credit is taken in equal installments over seven years, beginning the year after the property is used in an eligible business. To qualify for this credit, the taxpayer must obtain a written determination from the Department of Commerce.
