Canoe the Rivers
Spend the day canoeing on the Mayo River.  Start at the Lower Mayo Beach access and paddle 8 miles (3-5 hours) to the 220 Bridge access.  Have lunch or dinner in historic downtown Madison and maybe check out a few of the shops.  Spend the night in Eden and take a short, one-hour canoe trip in Eden on the Dan River (link to Dan River section on rivers page) the next morning.  Local outfitters will assist you with equipment and shuttles.

River Camping
Embark on a group river outing on the Dan, Smith or Mayo Rivers with Three Rivers Outfitters and spend the night camping alongside the river. Camping is offered at a base camp location or on river islands. A variety of trip lengths are available as well canoe and kayak rental. Other activities include fishing, swimming and hiking. Play on the Lakes
Bring the family out for a fun-filled weekend of boating, skiing or fishing at Lake Reidsville or Belews Lake.  Camp in either of the full-service campgrounds at either lake and have fun grilling out and relaxing around a campfire.

Golf & Paddle
Take a two-day visit to Rockingham County and spend your first day playing a round of golf at any of our scenic, 18-hole golf courses.  Spend the night in the historic Boxley Bed & Breakfast Inn in Madison.  Following a delicious homemade breakfast, take a 2.5 mile canoe or kayak trip on the Mayo River near Madison and travel through some of the most serene landscape in the region.  Have lunch at one of the local cafes in historic downtown Madison before heading home.

Golf & Shop
Spend the weekend golfing & shopping in Rockingham County.  Play a full-round or short-round at any one of the area’s golf courses during the day.  Then, spend the evening strolling through our shopping districts (809k PDF) in Eden, Madison, Mayodan and Reidsville for some unique items & good bargains.  Stay the night at one of the hotels in Eden or Reidsville. 

History Buff
Travel to Rockingham County to take a ride on the historic Dan River bateau boat in Eden.  You’ll see some rare historic sites and learn about the unique river history in this area.  Have lunch at one of the local restaurants in Eden.  Then, take a self-guided tour along the North Carolina Civil War Trails in Rockingham County.  You’ll see the law office of a Confederate General, learn how the Leaksville Cotton Mill supplied wares for soldiers, see the Piedmont Railroad site that provided an escape route for Confederate President Jefferson, and learn how the town of Wentworth played a vital role in the war.

Relax & Unwind
